History of The Stanley Then & Now
Fun Fact
The very first insulated vacuum bottle made out of all-steel, was created by William Stanley Jr., The founder and creator of the brand Stanley.
Stanley Cups have been around for several years (nearly over 100 years) as they were established around the year 1913 by William Stanley Jr. Why? Because he wanted to make something that would without a doubt keep his coffee hot all throughout the day while he went about his day. Back then, Vacuum - insulated bottles had a glass lining which helped in keeping coffee hot, which was until one day, the glass decided to break. Which therefore, called for an update in the design of the cup. In 2017 they introduced a new technology called “Quad- vac” which ultimately kept drinks hot for over 24 hours. This invention has been implemented to all recent designs of the water bottle.
In the beginning, Stanley cups had no side handles, only came in a shade of green, and were tall yet very skinny, therefore not being able to hold much product. Now, they come in a variety of sizes and colors and have a side handle in order for users to comfortably hold it in their hands. (The image in figure 1.2 shows the evolution of the stanley from what it used to be to what they typically look like now.
Why are they trendy? A CNN article reports how the different vibrant colors available attract the consumers alongside the amount of hours they can keep drinks hot or cold and the high quality / durability of the product. Social media popularized stanley cups, Tik tok specifically. With the help of social media, Stanley cup’s sales were seen to have skyrocketed from $75 million to $750 million in just 2023.
